Scores of unpaid public health sector workers in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi have been protesting against delays in the payment of their salaries.

The workers, including nurses say they have not been paid for the past 24 months, a situation which has plunged them into a severe state of economic hardship.

Some of the nurses who spoke to Joy FM's Erastus Asare Donkor said even though they have followed all laid down procedures for the situation to be addressed, they have not received any meaningful response from government.

This according to them has made it increasingly impossible for them to cater for their basic needs and their families.

They indicated that other factors such as the non-payment of their SSNIT contributions and the failure by government to provide appointment letters for the nurses influenced their decision to embark on the demonstration.

The group said they would submit their petition to government through the Ashanti Regional Minister. They have also threatened to demonstrate in the other regional capitals of the country if government fails to address the concerns.

The upset group includes Registered General Nurses, Registered Midwives, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Community Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Certified Community Nurses.

They are demanding that government pay all salary and outstanding arrears due them by November 30, 2014.
