A well-known ‘waakye’ seller at Ashaiman, Hajia Hajara M. Aliu, has been appointed by the Mills government as a member of the Council of State.
She appealed to women and girls to aim high in all their endeavours and chosen profession no matter the level of education they have attained.
The ‘waakye’ seller who is also the National Women’s Organiser of the People’s National Convention was speaking with The Ghanaian Observer (GO) in an exclusive interview at her home at Ashaiman few days after she was appointed to that high office by the President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
She has also appealed to men, especially Muslims not to force their daughters into early marriages but allow them to further their education to the level they want to.
She used the opportunity to thank President Mills for the appointment and also some member of the PNC, notably Dr. Edward Mahama, Scott Pwamang and Bernard Monnah as well as some members of the NDC who supported her to get this far, not forgetting her husband Mr. Ali, her six children and the Almighty Allah for his blessings.
