MTN Ghana held a one-day golf clinic for the sport’s lovers who wish to know the basic rudiments on the game of golf
About 10 golf fans had an on-course practical lesson for about half a day. They learned how to position themselves to hit the ball for maximum effect, putt into a hole and some of the technicalities of the sports whiles learning the terminologies alongside.
Held alongside the last golf event on MTN’s golf calendar, the CEO’s Invitational Tournament at Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono, the participants expressed their appreciation to MTN and added they will partake in the next clinic.
Emmanuel Gyasi, Business Segment Manager at MTN Ghana said MTN held the clinic to allay fears that golf is only for the elite in society.
“The motivation for the clinic is that complaints come every time that golf is only for the elite and what we have decided is to give opportunities to anybody who loves the game and has a desire to learn to attend these clinics for some education,” he said.
He added that the clinics also serve as a platform to teach people to become amateurs or professionals and therefore add up to the number of golfers in the country.
“We want to increase the number of golfers in the country and we hope these clinics will help produce bigger numbers so that competitions will have more players,” he added.
He hoped that the clinics will be run on a regular basis. “We work with the golf clubs and as long as they can allow we will keep doing this at every tournament. Once the clubs allow we will do it. It is a way to actually increase the number of golfers in the country.”
Evans Oppong of GT Bank, a learner who has been practicing for five months, said he joined the clinic because he doesn’t consider himself to be perfect enough to join any competition.
“I feel I need some more practice and being part of this clinic has enhanced my knowledge and depth of the game. I have a teacher who is guiding me and teaching me how to position myself to avoid back pains when I swing.”
He added that now his training in the background is over and can now join the main tournaments.
