Incumbent Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei, has told delegates participating at the party’s congress not to sell their conscience for financial gains.
In defiance of rules set by the party executives, prohibiting candidates from addressing delegates in a final bid for votes, Dr. Adjei took the opportunity given him to open the national delegates' congress to make a final appeal.
The man who is seeking a third term in office is facing a stiff challenge from two of his vice chairpersons; Kofi Porturphy and Alhaji Hudu Yahya.
But addressing the delegates in his capacity as chairman to open the congress Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Dr. Kwabena Adjei made a veiled reference to a seeming rot within the party, saying, "I think we will have to tell ourselves the hard truth; the hard truth of what is happening to our social democratic party and agenda."

He cautioned his fellow contestants against vote buying and insisted that they rather work hard and come up with creative ways of moving the nation forward.
Dr. Ajei could not resist the opportunity to remind all present that he presents the best quality for chairmanship, having led the party to win two successive elections in 2008 and 2012.
"I stand for the goodness of NDC. I stand for the goodness of Mother Ghana. I dedicate myself, the rest of my life to Mother Ghana.
"I’ve seen things before and there is nothing that will prevent me from dedicating that life to my dear country", he said, alluding to his experience.
“This is not a time for experimentation, this is a time that we must know that we cannot buy the entire Ghanaian electorate…we must not sleep, we have to use our creative intelligence,” he told the delegates.

He said the NDC has “come a long way from 1992 and we are going to go a long way from now into the future."
Sounding positive about his chances, Dr. Adjei promised a smooth and resounding victory for the governing party in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary polls.
“I blend the aged and the youth and we can make 2016 as easily as we have made the previous years. We all have our faults…I try to do my best; I will continue to do my best until I’m carried into my little box [coffin]”.
