Prosecutors in the robbery and assault case against Kumasi gangster, Bashiru Atta, also known as ‘Bash,’ are unhappy about the decisions by the court to free him.
A Kumasi Circuit Court today acquitted and discharged the ex-convict who was facing two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
He was alleged to have attacked a transport ticket seller, knocked her unconscious and made away with the daily sales.
Bash who was arrested late last year is also being investigated for several other cases.
He was held for robbery and assault of Kwame Owusu Ansah, a drinking bar operator.
In the latest incident Bash was accused of bolting with 1,500 cedis after attacking the ticket seller.
But his lawyer filed a motion of no case against the suspect, an application the judge William Boampong granted.
The ruling has left the prosecution livid with some suspecting underhand political dealings.
The suspect is said to be the son of the former Regional Womens Organiser of the NDC.
The suspect was also granted bail on a charge of causing harm for which he will open a defence on the 19th of this month.
Police told Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor such judicial outcome is a disincentive to the fight against crime in the country.
Superintendent William Akunnor did not understand why the suspect was acquitted.
He was even more scandalised about the fact that the judge has accepted the charge of causing harm against the ticket seller but has acquitted him on the charge of robbery.
"The harm that was caused came before the robbery. What was the intent of causing harm? he questioned.
"We are very sad about the rulings given today," Superintendent Akunnor lamented.
