The Nsawam Police has arrested four men suspected of stealing 160 boxes of agro-chemicals from a vehicle involved in an accident at Ntoaso near Nsawam in the Akuapem South Municipality.
They are Kwasi Boateng a 21-year-old driver’s assistant; Abubakari Sadick, 34, mechanic, Akpalu Frank, 22, driver’s assistant and Ahiagbe Richard, 21, farmer.
Superintendent Sabastian Atsu Wemegah, Police Commander in-charge of Nsawam, told GNA that the vehicle was travelling from Burkina Faso to Tema.
He said the suspects were arrested upon a tip-off by the owner of the agro-chemicals, a clearing agent from Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso.
Supt. Wemegah said the theft occurred when the suspects voluntarily assisted in transferring the agro-chemicals from the vehicle involved in the accident into another one.
He said police retrieve the quantity of agro-chemicals from the rooms of the suspects.
Supt. Wemegah said the suspects, who have been remanded in prison custody, would appear before a circuit court at Nsawam.
He appealed to the public to assist the police to arrest other accomplices.
