Amalgamated Bank Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Amalgamated Bank Plc, one of the fastest growing banks on the African continent, on Thursday made a GH¢2,000,000.00 check donation to the SOS children's Village in Accra, to help meet their social needs.
The donation, according to the bank's Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Menson Torkornoo forms part of its social responsibilities of addressing the plight of the needy in communities where the bank operates.
Presenting the cash donation to the Village, Mr. Torkonoo promised the bank's commitment to offer any assistance needed by the Village to its students who complete tertiary education.
The cheque was received by Mr. Kojo Mattah, National Director of SOS Children's Village. He expressed the Village's profound gratitude towards the gesture accorded them by Amal Bank and promised to use the money for the upkeep of the Village.
The Head of Communications/Marketing and Fundraising, Ms. Rita Afua Owusu in an interview with the paper noted that the Village is faced with numerous challenges; key among them was funding to run its activities.
She was however, grateful to Amal Bank for lending their support to the Village and called for consistent donations to enable the Village plan its activities very well.
She encouraged corporate bodies, institutions, Non-Governmental Organisations as well as individuals to support the Village, adding "every little drop counts".
The SOS Children's Village according to Ms. Afua Owusu would soon extend its frontiers to Kumasi and Tamale, and hopes to reach out to 20,000 children by the year 2016.
