Some 40 persons, including health workers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) will be quarantined after coming into contact with the 10 Guinean COVID-19 patients.
Police officers who moved the foreigners from their hotel to the Hospital have also been identified and will be quarantined.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed who disclosed this to JoyNews’ Martina Abugri “the medical team at TTH have been identified and the officers [who I have tasked] to handle the case have found a hotel where they will be quarantined.
“The police officers have been identified, we have found a location and we are going to quarantine them. Workers of the guest house where they were have been profiled and will be quarantined,” he added.
The Minister added that the various Assemblies have been directed to use schools as quarantine centres in the meantime.
For persons travelling to the North, the Minister said they will be quarantined at these schools and checked.
“Those with normal temperatures will have their records taken before they leave for their homes but those who show abnormal temperatures will be left in the schools so that the medical professions will come and take their samples for testing.”
On Sunday, the Ghana Health Service confirmed 11 more cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing Ghana’s total to 152.
Out of the 11 cases, 10 were Guinean citizens who had entered Tamale through Burkina Faso and Togo.
At a press conference, Information Minister Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the 1o foreigners will be repatriated to their country of origin for treatment.
“The test results came in this morning (Sunday morning). The Ghanaian and other West African authorities are completing arrangements so that they can be repatriated to their countries of origin for treatment. So they will not be treated within our jurisdiction."
