Residents of Oyibi, near Accra, have expressed concern about the early closing of the local police station.
They said the police station closes at 6 pm contrary to their expectations that police stations remain open for 24 hours.
Speaking to the Times, the residents who pleaded anonymity, said the Oyibi Estate Residents Association raised funds to rent a house to serve as the police station due to security challenges that face the area.
They therefore, wondered why the station should close immediately after 6 pm till the following morning.
The residents said their checks revealed that while one of the three policemen manning the station was detailed to the residence of a magistrate out of the town from 6pm to 6 am, the other two were assigned duties at a filling station.
The residents said as a result, social miscreants have capitalised on the vulnerability of the town, resulting in increased crime wave.
According to the residents, the non-functioning of the police station in the night results in fear to the residents.
DCP Rose Atinga Bio, Accra Regional Police Commander, when contacted, said: "Police stations don't close at six. They operate 24 hours."
She assured that she would investigate the situation.
