An equipment operator at Meridian Port Services (MPS) in Tema who was asked to self-isolate over suspected Covid-19 symptoms, has tested negative in what appears to be a final test. Â
The staff in two separate tests carried out earlier showed negative in the first instance but tested positive in the second, raising concerns over his true status.
Following consultation between officials of the company, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority(GPHA), health authorities in Tema metropolis and the National Covid Team, he was asked to self-isolate.
According to General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Affairs at GPHA, Esther Gyebi Donkoh, the third test results from Noguchi Memorial Institute proves negative.
Prior to his isolation, the staff was showing signs of fever but this result comes as good news for him and many others who were concerned.
Last week when news broke that an equipment operator at MPS terminal had tested positive in the second test, some staff among other stakeholders were alarmed.
However, outcome of this test is expected to calm nerves which will allow workers within the port enclave go about their normal duties.
Several measures taken to protect lives at Ghana’s busiest port are still in place as the world continues to battle with Covid-19 pandemic.
Arrangement has also been made to test all his colleagues who were on the same shift.
