As part of measures to prevent further spread of the coronavirus in the Greater Accra Region, the regional security council (RESEC) has put in place various strategies that are expected to be strictly adhered to by all residents.
Signed and approved by the Regional Minister, Ismael Ashitey, these measures were arrived at after an emergency meeting on Wednesday April 22.
In a press release sighted by JoyNews, the Council said it is now mandatory for the general public to wear a face mask outside the privacy of their homes.
Commercial drivers are also to ensure that passengers wear face masks before being allowed to board their vehicles.

Also, “notices of ‘NO FACE MASK, NO ENTRY’ should be visibly displayed at vantage points including offices, lorry stations, shops, markets, malls, banks, pharmacies, among others.”
While banning all special market days in the region, RESEC also said there will be a creation of satellite markets by MMDAs to decongest main markets in the Greater Accra region.
According to the Regional Minister, education and sentisation on wearing of face masks will also instensify so as to ensure that the people adhere to all President Akufo-Addo’s directives which include social distancing, ban on public gathering and wearing of face masks.
Currently, the Greater Accra region has the highest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. As of Wednesday, April 22, the country’s case count stood at 1154, with 120 recoveries and 9 deaths.
Regions that have reported cases include the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Central, Western, and North East regions.
