The Information Minister has announced that the Indian Construction firm, AFCON Infrastructure Limited, where a dozen of workers tested positive for COVID-19 will be reopened later this week.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the infected persons have recovered and discharged after they were treated.
Speaking with Emefa Apawu on Beyond The Lockdown on the JoyNews channel Sunday, he said the situation in the area has been contained and keeping the facility under lock will not be prudent.
"The cases in the Eastern Region is so contained. My understanding is that later this week they will reopen that factory. The persons who were infected have been treated and recovered; no new cases. You don't have any bases to lock down a bit further " he said.
Eastern Region’s first COVID-19 case was recorded at the AFCON Infrastructure Limited Camp B in March 2020.
Later, 20 more workers tested positive for the virus after over 200 samples were taken from persons believed to have been exposed to the virus at the construction firm.
The Information Minister also revealed that the COVID-19 situation in Tema and Obuasi have been brought under control with health workers now attending to the increasing cases in Tarkwa and its environs.
