Members of the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voters Register Tuesday accompanied the National chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the police service.
This follows an invitation issued by the Department to Bernard Mornah over some pronouncements he allegedly made against the Electoral Commission (EC) which was deemed to be a threat.
In the letter, sighted by JoyNews and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, Mr Mornah had allegedly vowed to resist every attempt by the EC to compile a new voters’ register.

In his response, the outspoken politician said he was not perturbed by the development.
According to him, while the invitation will be honoured, he does not regret his utterance, therefore, he will not retract or apologise.
Honoring the invitation in the company of some members of the coalition, the group cladded in red and black made their way to the police headquarters from the Ako Adjei Park at Osu where they had massed up.

With placards and chants of ‘all die be die’, Mr Mornah was escorted to the CID headquarters for his interrogation.
We wholly endorse and subscribe fully to the comments made by Bernard Mornah – NDC
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown their support behind an alleged inflammatory statement made by the National Chairman of the PNC and leading member of the Inter-Party Resistance Against a New Voters’ Register (IPRAN).

Bernard Mornah who has since been invited by the police to aid in investigations about his statement is said to have strongly cautioned the EC at a press conference of a potential outbreak of political violence at registration centres.
According to Bernard Mornah, the violence will be as a result of the exclusion of the existing voters ID card from the list of identification requirements for the new voter registration exercise the EC intends to undertake.

But the NDC in a statement copied to Joy News said “for purposes of emphasis, the NDC wholly endorses and subscribes fully to the comments made by Comrade Bernard Mornah.”

The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Otokunor said the unwavering decision of the Jean Mensa-led EC to compile a “needless, illogical and wasteful” new Voters’ register could spark chaos and political unrest in the country.
