A 28-year-old woman was nearly lynched at Tema New Town in the Greater Accra Region after she confessed to killing her two children with rat poison.
The children, two and one-year-old died in their sleep after the concoction had been administered to them on Wednesday evening.
A neighbour, who only gave his name as Eric, told Adom News the woman confessed after committing the heinous crime on Thursday morning.
“The lady rushed out of the room after killing the children to tell us what she had done,” he stated.
Eric however said the lady’s action was not surprising since she always talked about killing her children because they were a burden to her.
“She always told us about plans to poison the children but we didn’t take it serious because she is mentally stable,” he said.
According to Eric, it took the intervention of the police, or else, residents of Tema New Town would have lynched the young woman.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue and the suspect is in police custody.
