Three men have been remanded into police custody after being arrested in connection with the alleged lynching of a man at Sabon Zongo in Kumasi.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in a statement, identified the deceased as Yusuf Zakari, who was allegedly attacked by a group of people in the early hours of Saturday, 19 July.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred at a cattle kraal in the Sabon Zongo area, where the victim sustained severe injuries during the assault.

The statement said Zakari was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for treatment before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following what the police described as "swift investigations", three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. They have been identified as Moses Adoko, 37, a plumber; Abubakari Adams, 25, a herdsman; and Nurudeen Suleman, 35, a motor mechanic.

The suspects were subsequently arraigned before the Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Worship Mrs Hilder Esther Wryter.

The police said the court remanded all three suspects into police custody, and they are expected to reappear on 7 August.

Meanwhile, investigators say efforts are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged lynching and to identify other people who may have taken part in the attack.

"The Police have commenced further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are making efforts to identify and arrest any other persons who may have been involved," the statement said.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command also cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that suspected criminal activities should be reported to the police for lawful action.

In its appeal, the Command urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the nearest police station or use the police emergency numbers.

"The Police remain committed to ensuring that all persons connected with this incident are brought to justice through the due process of law," the statement added.
