The Fulani Community in Ghana has reiterated its calls on government to look into recent killings of herdsmen in the country.
The most recent one is the killing of 28-year-old Dauda Musah at Kwamang in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti region.
Musah was allegedly attacked in his house and shot in the head.
About eight of his cattle were also shot and carted away by the murderers.
Leadership of the Fulani community says the constant attack is creating serious tension and worry within their ranks and files.
“Well, these atrocities I may put it, has been happening to our Fulani communities not only in this particular region but nationwide. But in this particular region, it has become very serious that it needs national attention that is a security threat to our nation.
“Within eleven months now, including the one that has been shot dead in his house three days ago, he’s the 34th person that has been killed within the same area. That’s Sekyere District Assembly. And this has become a serious issue within the Fulani communities,” the leadership of the community said.
Leadership says they will stand by the 13 day ultimatum period for the police to find the perpetrators of the act but expresses fear they might not be able to contain the situation if the herdsmen become fed up.
“And we’ve been in touch with the police and the police have made one arrest. We believe in the police and we know the police will do the job. The police have calmed us down and we’re still holding our temper because if care is not taken and things escalate, it’s not going to be okay with us.” They said.
They are, therefore, calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Bureau of National Investigation to take a keen interest in the matter and bring the murderers to book before the situation worsens.
