President John Dramani Mahama will deliver the state of the nation address on Thursday, February, 26, 2015.
This was announced on the floor of Parliament by the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho, after Patrick Boamah, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, asked when the President will be in the House.
The NPP MP had suggested that he had heard different dates from various quarters as the dates being considered for his address. But the Speaker said he knew of only one date, “26th February” which has not changed.
The State of the Nation address will be the 3rd to be delivered by President Mahama since he was elected in December 2012.
As Ghana keeps battling to end the current power crisis, President Mahama is expected to among other things, paint a picture of the extent of the problem and state clear and pragmatic measures to end the crisis.
Aside the crippling power challenges, the economy has also experienced challenges and the President is expected to announce to Ghanaians, whether the bailout programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will finally take off.
It is likely the President will also make references to his 2014 state of nation address which was delivered last year and point out some key achievements chalked by his administration.
Power challenges
Ghana’s power challenges have worsened in recent times. The situation is reportedly affecting businesses and industries across the country.
Cold store owners at the Tema Harbour earlier told Citi News that the unpredictable and unreliable power supply is gradually grinding their businesses to a halt.
The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) early on, also said its members are struggling to manage their businesses under the current economic conditions.
Various groups have threatened to demonstrate against what they believe is government’s refusal to resolve the challenge.
They believe their protest will be a wake up call for government to act swiftly to save industries from a further collapse.
