Former Rector for Koforidua Technical University has advised teachers to spend their resources on the acquisition of knowledge in the field.
According to Prof Smile Afua Dzisi, this will help improve their capacity and enhance their teaching skills.
She made these comments at the Ghana National Association of Teachers stakeholders’ forum.
In her presentation at the event, the educationist advised young teachers to use their savings to further their education in relevant courses to enable them to build a good and quality standard of teaching in the country.
She explained that teaching is one of the most essential professions in Ghana.
Addressing players in the education sector on Thursday, the former Rector acknowledged that there are a number of challenges bedeviling the practice in the country but advised teachers not to fret.
Prof Dzisi called on the educators to surmount those problems and not be discouraged in the discharge of their duties.
Meanwhile, GNAT is advocating for a “one laptop and one modem per teacher” policy to support teachers.
“We have suffered for ourselves and we are still doing a lot. It is time for us to be supported by civil society organisations, NGOs and government to possibly have a policy, one teacher, one laptop, one modem,” GNAT President Philippa Larsen said.
The Association says that such an intervention will help them discharge their duties effectively as they engage their students online.
