The Afife Traditional Council led by the Paramount Chief of the area, Togbui Adrakpanya VI has condemned the disturbances staged by the alleged secessionist group seeking withdrawal from Ghana.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, the chief described the act as “criminal activities” and a "threat to socio-economic development in the area and the entire region as a whole".
According to him, the Afife Traditional area has not been consulted by any group and will not consent to any decision to secede.
He stressed that his subjects and himself are dedicated to the unitary state of Ghana.
“We wish to state categorically that the Afife Traditional Council disassociates itself from this group and denounce their criminal activities,” he said.
On the other hand, Torgbui Adrakpanya applauded the government for beefing up security in the region.
He also appealed for the officers who have been tasked to man the area to be well-equipped by government in order to effectively carry out their duties in the region.
“We applaud the security forces for acting urgently to safeguard the peace and security of our region, and we urged them to continue to protect lives and property not only in the traditional area but the entire region.”
Meanwhile, major traditional leaders in the Volta region have condemned the attacks in the region in quest to form a separate nation.
Currently, there is heavy security presence in the region especially in Ho, Hohoe, Kpando, Aflao, Juapong and some parts of Oti region.
