An Executive Member of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has noted that successive governments in the country’s democracy has been more corrupt than their predecessors.
Bishop Samuel Noi Mensah said, “Since our 1992 constitution and we are in the fourth republic, every successive government have been more corrupt than the previous government.”
The founder of the Full Gospel Church International (FGCI) added, “And the next government will be more corrupt than this government.”
Speaking at a Christian Election Forum under the topic “Election 2020, the role of the church”, the pastor wondered how people could come into power and gain lots of properties within the first term in office.
“You come to the office and within four-years, you acquire lands, filling stations, buildings and what have you, and you are coming from among the society and the people knew you before you went into government and within four-years, how can you probably acquire this,” he questioned.
He, however, noted sadly that corruption has become a canker “and yet nobody will call you to question, nobody will persecute you because the member of government who must persecute you; the attorney general is of his government”.
Bishop Noi Mensah said corruption must be made unattractive to curb the problem, stressing that until offenders are punished to serve as a model, the problem of corruption in the country cannot be solved.
“When the next government comes, they would say alright, the previous government did it and nobody punished them… so they will be more corrupt than the previous government,” he hinted.
The forum organised by Joy FM was moderated by Pastor Ato Acquah at the Royal House Chapel, Ahenefie in Accra on Sunday, October 25.
