President Akufo-Addo has announced an extension of the incentive package for frontline health workers in the country to the end of the year.
He said this is part of government's commitment to ensuring that, health workers are given the necessary support while they contribute their quota towards mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as saving lives.
"This means that all health workers will pay no income taxes for the months of October, November and December," he said.
The three-month incentive package was first announced in April, where frontline health workers were given a tax holiday for the months of April, May, and June.
In his 19th address on measures taken against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, President Akufo-Addo announced an extension of the package until December.
"Again, all frontline health workers, as defined by the Ministry of Health, will continue to receive the additional allowance of 50% of their basic salary per month, for the months of October, November and December," he said.
He added that, the provision of adequate medicines, equipment, and personal protective equipment to enable health workers attend to home-based patients, has also been guaranteed.
He further expressed worry over the recent surge in the country's active cases, [from 398 during his last address to 1,139 as of Friday, November 6th.]
The President said government is doing its best to keep the virus under control.
However, he was emphatic that it behooves the general public to also contribute its quota by strictly adhering to all protocols, in order to completely defeat the virus.
