Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has charged security agencies across the country to exhibit firmness and fairness in the conduct of their duties during the electioneering period.
According to James Oppong-Boanuh, the professionalism demonstrated by the country’s security services must be replicated as Ghanaians go to the polls in barely two weeks.
"What we expect is for you to be professional, attend to your duties but be sure that you are firm. Do not be intimidated by anybody just as you're not going to intimidate anybody," he told the troops.
He made these calls while addressing the National Election Security Taskforce made up of personnel from the Military, Police, Immigration, Fire Service, National Security among others in Accra.
Speaking at the Black Star Square, Mr Oppong-Boanuh highlighted the need to protect the ballot get ahead of any disturbance that may erupt at polling centres to protect the sanctity of the ballot.
"This march is intended not to intimidate anybody. But it is to show everybody that we are prepared to protect all citizens, residents and the ballot," the IGP said on Thursday ahead of a peace march.
The National Election Security Taskforce is expected to deploy 6,794 personnel nationwide to ensure law and order before, during and after the December polls.
The taskforce will guard all the 275 coalition centres and 40,000 polling stations across the country.
