When John Mahama made his last appearance in Ghana’s parliament as President on January 5, 2017, he said he “…would leave posterity to judge his stewardship”.
Two years from then, with the NDC’s famous “arise, arise for Ghana” anthem, he announced he would be running for office again as President.
His campaign is dubbed the rescue mission, alleging the Akufo-Addo government which took over from him in 2017 has been poor in manning the affairs of the country especially its track record in fighting corruption- one of the biggest cornerstones on which he rode to power.
He is seeking to overturn nearly one million votes, the margin by which he lost to Mr Akufo-Addo only four years ago.
At his inauguration eight years ago when he won the 2012 elections, he said “we have been first before and we can so again,” talking about the role of Ghana in shaping democracy in Africa.
In many ways, this can be his own story too and the results of December 7 will show.
