President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended his fellow presidential competitors for fighting a good fight until the end.
Delivering a victory speech at his Nima residence, the newly elected President acknowledged that his contenders helped to ensure that the presidential race was exciting and keenly contested.
He indicated that the ultimate goal of the contest was for each contender to get the chance to develop the country.
In view of that, he called for the nation to unite and forge ahead as one nation and one people.
“Prior to this declaration by the EC chairperson, I received personal congratulatory messages from some of my fellow presidential candidates in the election on December 7.
“I express my appreciation to them and thank them for helping to ensure that the race was largely an exciting contest of ideas with an ultimate goal for the growth and development of mother Ghana as well as the improvement of the living standards of the Ghanaian people," he said.
The Electoral Commission, earlier, declared New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the tightly contested presidential election.
He polled 6,730, 413 which is 51.59% of the total valid cast nationwide on December 7.
His closest contender, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 6, 214, 889 which gives him 47.36% of the total votes cast.
