In keeping with its commitment to ensure that females attain education at the highest level possible, telecommunications giant, Vodafone Ghana, has partnered British Council to launch a scholarship scheme for needy but brilliant female JHS students interested in studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at the secondary school level.
Speaking to a section of Media, British Council Executives as well as Vodafone Ghana management and staff at the event, the Director of Human Resource at Vodafone Ghana, Stella Agyenim Boateng, said “the number of females employed within the technology field in Ghana is disproportionately lower than males both at the secondary school and tertiary level and we believe in empowering women to become successful in their career choices and this we continue to demonstrate through our diversity and inclusion activities.”
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Liliana Biglou, Country Director for British Council expressed joy that Vodafone Ghana has brought them on board to facilitate the process involve in winning the scholarship. She also assured Vodafone Ghana of their preparedness to make this a success.
The scholarship package includes full tuition, administration fees and text books as well as exercise books. One must be a resident in Ghana at the time of applying for the scholarship, demonstrate sturdy progression in academic work, and have an interest in studying and / or pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
In her concluding remarks, Stella Agyenim Boateng reiterated Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s commitment to ensure that every Ghanaian gets the opportunity to have access to quality education and healthcare.
