MP-elect for Tamale South has stated that 2020 will be remembered as one of the most challenging years in history.
Considering the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, Haruna Iddrisu said many lives and businesses have been negatively impacted.
"For businesses, for individuals, many many Ghanaians have lost their jobs which means they are out of income. Many businesses are [also] struggling, particularly those in the hospitality industry, many workers are being laid off," he said.
His comment comes as part of discussions on the JoyFM's Super Morning Show (SMS) Friday.
While delivering his New Year message on the show, the incumbent Minority Leader admitted that 2020 had been a tough year, however, he hopes for a better 2021.
He added that more needs to be done by both government and the general public with regards to curtailing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We are behaving as a country as if we are out of the woods of Covid. We need to watch it much carefully. If there is a second phase of it as picking up quietly, we seem not to be paying attention to that public health pandemic, as if all is well with us," he said.
But "we need to pay attention to Covid especially as we go into 2021," he added.
He further stated that efforts must also be geared towards accelerating the growth of affected businesses and livelihoods.
"How they sustain their livelihoods, how they sustain their families must be a matter of urgent public attention.
In terms of "what we need to do to assuage the debilitating effect the public health pandemic called Covid has had on the affected person, we need to pay attention to Covid especially as we go into 2021," he added.
