Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is urging parliamentarians to undergo their medical screening and coronavirus testing by the close of day Tuesday, January 25.
This comes on the back of a spike in coronavirus cases in the country.
Speaking at the commencement of sitting for business on Tuesday, he stated that the members were expected to get the testing done some days ago.
However, Alban Bagbin said his checks from the parliamentary health centre showed that some MPs have still not done the screening or undertaken their coronavirus testing.
"We arranged with the Noguchi Institute to use three days. The days are over but I am reliably informed that a number of our members have not yet taken the opportunity to do the screening or undergo the tests."
"I humbly urge that you all take this opportunity seriously and go through by the end of today [Tuesday]," Speaker Alban Bagbin told the House.
Meanwhile, Parliament is taking its proceedings virtual as part of measures to curtail the spread of Covid-19.
According to the Speaker, only one-third [91] out of the 275 MPs will be required to be present in the chamber while others transact business from their offices.
He added that MP will be allowed into the chamber as and when the need arises to contribute to debates on the floor.
Currently, the Ghana Health Service reports that Ghana has recorded 3,613 active cases.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the country may be heading for tighter restrictions and a possible lockdown should the Covid-19 cases continue to rise.
He stated that considering the current trend where an average of 200 persons test positive for the virus daily, the imposition of restrictions should be anticipated.
