The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly is poised to make the area a commercial hub in the Volta Region, to enhance the livelihood of residents and boost the local economy.
The assembly is focused on enriching the human capital and create an enabling environment for the growth of small and medium scale businesses.
Speaking to JoyNews, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive, Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, explained the initiative forms part of the assembly’s plan to ensure the area becomes economically viable.
He detailed that the assembly had lobbied for the construction of a business advisory centre to provide a one-stop centre for the training of residents in skills, management and other related topics.
He added that the centre which is about 75% completed would be a game-changer in transforming the microeconomy of the Akatsi South Municipality.

Mr. Adzidogah said the assembly had begun an expansion of the Akatsi main market by constructing 3 sheds to accommodate traders who previously displayed their wares in the open.
He noted that a mechanized borehole has been provided in the market “to enable the traders and buyers to abide by the Covid-19 safety protocol of frequent hand-washing and ensure there is potable water available in the market 24/7.”

He, however, stated that the assembly is seeking to engage a private developer to construct a modern market.
He further indicated that the assembly is also implementing an agenda to fast develop the area to municipal status.
“We want to build a municipal hospital affixed with health directorate, municipal assembly complex, traditional council office complex, and police command and fire post.
He is, therefore, hoping to be retained to complete his agenda for the municipality within the next four years.
