The former Speaker of Parliament, Aaron Mike Oquaye has urged Ghanaians to ignore all forms of superstitions associated with the Covid-19 vaccination.
In line with the Covid-19 vaccination which commenced today, Tuesday, March 2, 2021, Mr Oquaye who was vaccinated at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, advised Ghanaians to refrain from attaching superstitious beliefs to the vaccination.
“I would plead with all others who are sceptical. Kindly let us to the right thing and let us stop worrying over all manner of things. You know, in this country even superstition, if you follow superstition to a certain degree you won’t go to even the hospital when you are sick, you will give everything all manner of interpretations."
"For some time now in this country nobody dies for nothing, everybody that dies is because a spirit is after him or her. So let us leave some of these things behind,” the former Speaker of Parliament said.
He further added that he believes the vast majority of people will respond to the calls to be vaccinated.
Meanwhile, Former President John Mahama, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other key personalities in Ghana were publicly vaccinated against the novel coronavirus this morning.
These key personalities included the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and Members of Parliament, the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah and Justices of the Superior Court of Judicature, Chairperson and Members of the Council of State, the Chief of Staff and senior officials at the Office of the President.
The vaccination is expected to run from March to October, 2021.
A total of 12,500 vaccinators, 2,000 supervisors and 37,413 volunteers will facilitate the vaccination exercise across all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the country.
