A 30-year-old skydiver has died after his parachute failed to deploy during a competition.
The man, a foreign national, was performing a solo wingsuit jump at Jurien Bay, north of Perth, on Sunday at 1.30pm during the Virtual Nationals Skydiving Competition.
The skydiver's parachute failed to open properly. Emergency crews rushed to help but he died at the scene.
Skydive Jurien Bay said the man was 'very experienced' and was performing a 'high level' jump, The West Australian reports.
'Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends,' a spokeswoman for the skydive company said.
An investigation will be conducted by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Parachute Federation.
WA Police will also prepare a report for the coroner.
Daredevils and tourists are known to visit Jurien Bay to skydive, but it's not the first time death or injury has occurred at the hotspot.
In 2019 a man in his 20s fractured his leg during a 'hard landing' while skydiving.
He was airlifted to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
