A 40-year-old man has been apprehended by the Wiawso Police Command after refusing to pay for a coffin he borrowed from a coffin maker in the Western North Region.
Mr Kwaku Tawiah, who is presently in police custody borrowed a coffin from Yaw Mensah, a coffin maker on December 13, to bury his deceased sister.
After the burial at Sefwi Nyame Bekyere on January 19, Kwaku Tawiah refused to settle his debt resulting in Yaw Mensah filing for his arrest at the Wiawso Police station on Saturday.
Mr Mensah who recounted the hide and seek events he went through told AdomNews Mr Tawiah informed him that the family had made a loss after the burial, hence would need time to settle his debt.
"Every time I go to his house to collect my money, he would run away. When I also ask about his whereabouts from his wife, she would tell me her husband has travelled. Meanwhile, her husband would be hiding in the house," he added.
According to Mr Mensah after visiting the family elder, he was informed that the money had been given to Mr Tawiah to pay for the coffin.
"The head of the family also moved to his house several times but he could not also find him. So we decided to look at other alternatives so we could have our money.
Mr Mensah indicated that because of Mr Tawiah's behavior of sleeping at home during the day and leaving at dawn, he went to his house yesterday around 12:30 am to capture him.
"We sent him to the police station and he was arrested," he said.
