One more person has died after Thursday’s chieftaincy clash at Asamankama in the Offinso South Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
Nana Kusi was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot by deceased Nana Kwame Appiagyei in protest of the enstoolment of one of four people.
According to Luv News, the enraged crowd chased Nana Appiagyei down, overpowered, and shot him with his own pump-action gun pulled from his car.
He died a few minutes after being rushed to the St. Patrick Hospital, while Nana Kusi was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Police at Offinso who were called to the scene retrieved two cartridges from the scene but were unable to make an arrest.
Commander, Deputy Supt. Ben Wonchi explains investigations have commenced into the incident.
“The one who shot the deceased was in a mob and investigations have commenced. Hopefully, the suspect will be apprehended,” he said.
Police have since invited the Queenmother, Nana Sika Dufie and the elders to assist in investigations.
“They did not notify the police,” said the police Commander.
“According to the Public Order Act when you want to organize events like that you notify the police five clear days ahead of that so they can conduct preliminary investigations. For now, we have taken the statement of the queen mother and elders and we will put them before a court”.
