A Kumasi-based private legal practitioner, Samuel Amofa Koduah, has advised students of Konongo Senior High School to develop diverse skills in order to succeed in life.
He said the dynamism of the world of work requires multitalented employees to be able to compete for the limited slots available.
Mr Amofa Koduah, while interacting with the students under the theme "Nurturing tomorrow's leaders today to solve critical national issues" admonished them not to limit themselves to the courses they study in school but to acquire different skills to work effectively and efficiently.
Mr. Koduah is a former student of the Konongo Senior High School whose dream is to see the students excel to motivate others.
A recent study by labour economists found that “one more robot per thousand workers reduces the employment to population ratio by about 0.18-0.34 percentage points and wages by 0.25-0.5 per cent.”
A key idea emerging from many conversations, including one of the lynchpin discussions at the World Economic Forum in 2016, is that changes in educational and learning environments are necessary to help people stay employable in the labour force of the future.
Mr. Koduah believes it will be essential for students to get training and develop new job skills throughout their school life in order to keep up with changes in the workplace.
The principal of Jackson College of Education, Mrs Theodosia Jackson, wants the students to develop a shared view of how technology is affecting life.
According to her, today's decision-makers should not be trapped in traditional thinking.
Mrs. Theodosia Jackson also advised the students to remain focused and stay away from intimate relationships that will ruin their future.
