The Wenchi Divisional Police Command in the Bono Region has impounded 26 unregistered and uninsured motorbikes within the Wenchi Municipality.
The operation was aimed at reducing criminal offenses involving unregistered motorbikes in the area.
The exercise, led by the Wenchi Divisional Police Commander in charge of Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Kofi Oduro Amponsah further sought to warn potential unregistered vehicle users.
“You will agree with me that criminals, especially robbers are increasingly using unregistered motorbikes to perpetuate crime and so we received instruction from the regional command to undertake this operation," he stated.
DSP Oduro Amponsah said owners of the impounded motorbikes have been asked to register and insure their bikes with the Driver and Vehicle Licenses Authority (DVLA) and present their documents to the police before they can retrieve the motorbikes.

He added that “our main aim is not to prosecute the offenders but to allow them to register their motorbikes and then get them back".
"Fortunately, DVLA has its office in Wenchi here, so the bike owners could just walk there and go through the registration process, bring their documents, and take back their motorbikes,” the MTTD Commander stressed.
DSP Oduro Amponsah intimated some of the offenders have already started with the registration process but cautioned motorists from using unregistered or uninsured vehicles to avoid getting arrested.
