Ghana's top computer training provider, NIIT Open Labs Ghana, says it’s ready to support young women and the youth in acquiring skills in information technology.
According to the Head of Business and Director for Open Labs, Sujith Jayaprakash, IT courses are designed by his outfit to equip some number of students with skills to become developers, amongst others.
At the launch of the Youth Employment Initiative Open Labs Ghana, Mr. Jayaprakash said these students will be aided in getting jobs after their study.
He believes there is the need to equip young people with employable IT skills to be more employable to support the economy at large and bridge the gender gap in information technology.
“The objective of this programme is to address two things which is to bridge the gender gap and reduce unemployment. Government and private institutions are putting in efforts, but we are also ensuring that these student go through a particular programme without paying fees. They are allowed to pay after school in installments”, he said
He also pointed out that these students will be monitored in their daily activities to avoid cyber security issues that will mar their developments.
“Ethics of using technology is built in this programme, so students will be abreast with it and not take undue advantage”, he said.
Some of the students also shared their expectations, indicating, they will do their utmost best to grasp whatever they are taught.
“We are happy with this initiative and we will do our best to acquire the needed knowledge in the field”, one of them told Joy Business.
The programme will span six months with students being taught deep technical programmes that prepares them for a full-time engineering and IT career.
