The Association of E-commerce Ghana has begun moves to get all online service providers and businesses certified with appropriate trust marks.
These marks are expected to indicate whether a particular online site is credible to transact business or otherwise.
Speaking at the maiden Africa Technovate Awards in Accra, Executive Director at the Association of E-Commerce, Paul Asinor, disclosed that the move is to help clean the online business space from scammers who take advantage of the system to dupe online shoppers.
This follows the multiple reports of online fraudsters and scammers using the various platforms to dupe innocent clients through some advertising means.
Paul Asinor believes that this initiative will be in collaboration with relevant regulators and some stakeholders in the digital space.
“We are working hard for the introduction of a trust mark for all registered and certified online businesses and shops operating in the country to serve as a seal of trust when you go shopping online.
This will serve as a seal of trust when you go shopping online” he said.
According to organisers of the award AIDEC Consultancies, the event under the theme “Information Technology and the Way Forward for Africa under the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, is to challenge and motivate tech companies driving digital solutions to make Africa stay competitive, especially under the era of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
