An ardent listener of Joy FM, affectionately called Auntie Yaa, has recounted how the mention of the radio station at a hospital she had checked in for delivery saved her life and her unborn baby.
She said her blood pressure was very high, and she needed urgent medical care, but the doctor assigned to her was not available.
“This was in 1997, and I was at the maternity ward having my delivery. Unfortunately, my doctor wasn’t around and my condition was very terrible,” she recounted on the Super Morning Show on Monday.

“My BP was 350 upwards and they (healthcare professionals) were supposed to give me one injection a day, but the nurses gave me thrice a day. So when it got to the 7th day, the baby wasn’t moving. The nurse came around and said there was something wrong with me, so she had to take me to the main ward. My doctor wasn’t around, so she said there was a doctor on the second floor,” she said.
Unfortunately, the doctor who could help did not want to because according to him, he was not the doctor assigned to her. It took a threat from the nurse to take him on, on "Joy FM", to get him to attend to Aunty Yaa.

“In fact, when the nurse went to the doctor, he said he was not coming down because I wasn’t his patient. So the nurse said ‘Doc if you’re not coming and something happens to her, I’ll mention your name on Joy 99.7 FM.’
“Within seconds, the doctor came down, took care of me, and then I had my daughter, who has now completed University with a 2nd class degree.
“So if the woman hadn’t mentioned Joy FM at that Moment, I could have been dead by now,” she said.
Aunty Yaa is one of the Loyal Listeners of the Super Station. After learning about the station from the nurse in 1997, she has since stayed tuned in.
As a way of saying ‘thank you’ for her loyalty, the Joy SMS team rewarded Aunty Yaa with a hamper from Wilmar Africa.
"I love Joy FM because you've brought joy into my life," an elated Aunty Yaa said upon receiving the hamper.
