The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed its Constituency Executives elections.
NPP had initially set April 24, to April 28, 2022, to hold the said polls, but due to the series of conflicts that characterised the Polling Station elections, the National Executives have been forced to reschedule.
According to the party’s General Secretary, the Constituency Executive election will be held between April 28, 2022, and May 2, 2022.
John Boadu, however, noted that the dates for the other elections remain unchanged.
“The National Executive Committee initially decided that the constituency elections would be held between April 24, and April 28, 2022, but it has been postponed.
“However, all is on course. In fact, nominations will be opened and closed between the 19th and 20th of April and vetting of prospective aspirants will be done between 21st and 22nd April. If there is any redress, it will also be held between 23rd and 24th of April,” he said.
Conflicts rocked some electoral areas as the governing NPP began to reorganise processes ahead of the 2024 general elections.
During preparations to hold the Polling Station Executives elections, some party members accused their executives of hoarding the forms.
In February, NPP supporters at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region locked up the constituency chairman.
Similar agitations transpired in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region and Ningo-Prampram in the Greater Accra Region.
Manhyia North and Ho Central constituencies also registered some debacles as well.
Meanwhile, some New Juaben North and Sunyani East supporters sought legal redress.
They petitioned the court to seek an injunction of their respective polling station elections.
