Club J, an Accra-based social welfare club, in the spirit of goodwill has embarked on a donation exercise in the Osu Township.

The Club donated bags filled with assorted food items including bags of rice, cooking oil, canned fish, tin tomatoes, among many others to the aged in the Osu area.

The Club which was set up by a close knit of friends to lookout for the welfare of its members as well as the welfare of those in their communities embarked on the donation exercise to impact the lives of the aged in the community.

According to the Chairman of the Club, Humphrey Awuletey Williams, the Club had decided “to show love to the community this Easter Season. So at one of our weekly meetings, we decided to organize this donation exercise for 316 senior citizens in our community.

“We wanted the event to be very big, but decided to use this debut donation exercise as a litmus test to see how well our actions will be received. So each member contributed handsomely to the project and we bought the items for the donation.”

The donation was heavily patronized by the locals who expressed their profound gratitude for the gesture.

Some elderly people who had been in attendance said it felt good to be remembered during the festive season and prayed for God’s blessings on the Club members.

Chairman Humphrey noted that, “This is a little gesture, but we are certain the smiles we have put on their faces will be a blessing in our lives.”

He indicated that the Club plans on embarking on a much bigger donation exercise during the Homowo season and is hopeful that such donations become a characteristic of the Club going forward.

“Next year we will embark on this project with the help of Help Age Ghana. It’s a place for the aged, so we have told all the aged that attended the event to go and register with Help Age if they want to benefit from our future donations.

“Hopefully next year, or even before the year comes to an end we are looking forward to embarking on another exercise to impact the community. During the Homowo we hope to gift 2000 old people as part of our drive,” he stated.
