The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama has urged all Ghanaians, especially men and women in uniform to uphold love and respect for one another in the spirit of compassion, empathy and care-giving during the “Festival of Breaking the Fast.”

He made this appeal in a speech read during the commemoration of this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr festival at the Al-Aziz Central Mosque, Burma Camp on Tuesday 3 May, 2022.

On the theme, “Consolidating the Gains from Ramadan Fast,” the CDS congratulated the Muslim community in Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), and urged that they maintain the professional posture as they
strive to serve Allah and country.

The Acting Imam of GAF, Major N.A. Mohammed in his sermon, admonished Muslims to maintain a healthy spiritual life even after the blessed month of Ramadan.

“Remember therefore that, wrong doing and perversion corrupts the soul and eventually affects the entire body but righteousness purifies the soul and leads to success in this life and hereafter (Perpetual bliss of
Jannah)”, he said.

He counseled that, “Let us all consolidate the gains made from this fasting of the lessons in self-control that keeps us firmly within the confines and limits set for us by Allah and his messenger, the lessons in self-discipline that ensures we have the tenacity and endurance to devote our time, energy and resources to engage in acts of worship only to the Almighty and Omnipotent Allah. These will earn us the grace of the Omnipresent Allah that abounds with his blessings, forgiveness and mercy.”

Major Mohammed reiterated the essence of the Ramadan fasting.

This, he said was to strengthen the relationship with Allah, ensure spiritual atonement, forgiveness and to receive abundant grace and favour.

Eid-ul-Fitr, he added, is a time for Muslims to give charity to those in need and to celebrate with family and friends, the completion of the holy month of Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam.

The ITIKAF Committee from the Al-Aziz Central Mosque later donated an amount of GH¢9,000 equivalent to 150 bags of cement to Al-Aziz Central Mosque to continue with the Islamic school project.

ITIKAF in the Arabic language means to adhere or commit oneself to something and it is an Islamic practice consisting of a period of staying in the Mosque for a certain number of days, devoting oneself to ibadah and staying away from worldly affairs.
