Lauren London took to social media on Monday to share her approval of Kendrick Lamar’s tribute to the late Crenshaw legend Nipsey Hussle on “The Heart Part 5.”
To recap, Kendrick made his triumphant return Sunday night with a music video for “The Heart Part 5.”
The latest instalment in the Compton rapper’s “The Heart” song series samples Marvin Gaye’s classic 1976 song “I Want You,” while the visual sees Lamar morph into several pop culture figures, including Nipsey, who Kendrick raps from the perspective of in his third verse.
“I wake up that morning with more heart to give you,” Kendrick raps on the track. “As I bleed through the speakers, feel my presence. To my brother, to my kids, I’m in Heaven. To my mother, to my sis, I’m in Heaven. To my father, to my wife, I am serious, this is Heaven. To my friends, make sure you countin’ them blessings. To my fans, make sure you make them investments.”
K.Dot continues, “I seen the pain in your pupil when that trigger had squeezed… And though you did me gruesome, I was surely relieved. I completed my mission, wasn’t ready to leave. But fulfilled my days, my Creator was pleased.”
Lauren shared her approval of the video on her Instagram Story, writing, “Powerful Art.”
London isn’t the first person to hail Kendrick’s tribute to Nip.
Hours after the video dropped, Hit-Boy took to Twitter to applaud Kendrick for his reference to Nipsey, writing, “I can’t stop playing this nip part back @kendricklamar heavy.”
Kendrick is set to drop off his forthcoming fifth studio album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, later this week on Friday, May 13.
