Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has charged contractors working on the Waste recycling plant for the Zoomlion Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) to expedite work to help deal with growing electronic waste.
The plant for the Ahafo region sited in Goaso is expected to treat some components of electronic waste as well as process some materials into organic fertiliser for farmers.
This when concluded will ensure that the challenge between supply and demand for the fertilizer occasioned by the Russia-Ukraine war is dealt with.
As part of her official activities on the digitalization drive in the region, Ursula Owusu Ekuful visited the site and expressed satisfaction about the work.

She however urged the team to speed up work so many of the challenges with e-waste can be solved.
“I’m happy about the work here and it is very important that we recycle most of our digital tools coming out from various homes and workplaces”.
“They need to be disposed off in an environmentally friendly manner. So I’m very glad that you have that in your plans because we will be generating a lot and we need to know how we can dispose off them without ruining our environment”, she mentioned.

She further added that “I’m excited about this facility, it’s timely and shows the foresight of our government and various service providers”.
She also applauded the team for the innovation, adding that “the reason I think this must be completed early enough because we also need the fertiliser for food production” she charged the team.
Urusla Owusu-Ekuful was accompanied by the Regional Minister for the Ahafo Region, George Boakye, Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomah Boateng and other members of the Regional Coordinating Council and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.
