Last week, the Minority in Parliament urged President Akufo-Addo to instruct the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful to extend the deadline for the SIM card re-registration exercise.
This they said was based on the fact that the earlier deadline slated for 31st July “holds potential national security implications for millions of Ghanaians who have not been able to register, due to no fault of theirs.”
Also, many people have been struggling to re-register their SIM cards as required by the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation.
On the back of these calls, Communication and Digitalisation Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in a press briefing on Sunday extended the deadline to 30th September, 2022.
The extension prompted a discussion on PM Express about whether the latest deadline is in the right direction.
Guests for the discussion are; Deputy Ranking Member on the Communication Committee of Parliament, Samuel Nartey George, Chief Executive of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey and Head of Corporate Affairs at the National Identification Authority, Abudu Abdul Ganiyu.
