A sports journalist, Jerome Otchere says Ghanaians are refusing to admit that the glory days of the Black Stars are long gone.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe, the sports analyst believed it was sheer luck that the country qualified for the 2022 World Cup.
While admitting that the victory over Nigeria was a significant feat, Mr Otchere said the senior team requires a technical overhaul.
“Technically, Ghana is not there. We qualified by some rules of the game which I must say is part of the game but then on the field, looking at our performance, it wasn’t the best.
“So I am not surprised at how we are turning out to be,” he told Emefa Apawu on Sunday.
Black Stars suffered a 3-0 loss to Brazil last Friday.
In what looked more like a one-sided game, Brazil’s first-half brilliance did the damage as they put three goals past Ghana.
This comes amidst GFA’s campaign to #BringBackTheLove of Ghanaians to the Black Stars.
However, Mr Otchere said more needs to be done to get the national team in good standing.
“We are refusing to admit that this is not the Ghana Black Stars that we saw some years ago and it is going to take us some years to arrive at the team we want to see,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo has admitted he made mistakes with his selection on Friday night.
“I will start with myself because maybe the system was wrong. I have to look at it again and question myself first,” Addo said after the game.
“The lineup was good, but we have to work harder, especially on the set pieces and we have to work harder to close the lines. There were too many gaps between the lines.
“I think I made mistakes, I learnt a lot more about my players, and picking the next 11 will depend on the performance in the next game.”
