The Head of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) says a new placement policy, a cluster-based system, has been introduced to help resolve challenges relating to placement of JHS graduates into Senior High Schools (SHSs).
The cluster-based system is an update on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
Mr. Mark Sasu Mensah disclosed this in an interview on Asempa FM Ekosiisen on Thursday.
According to him, this system was introduced because CSSPS observed that about 3,000 students who had between aggregate 09 and 15 did not get placed into the SHS last year.
He said under the cluster-based system, candidates are required to select six schools as usual “which comprises of both Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET)and Ghana Education Service (GES) schools.”
According to him, after selecting the five schools from categories A, B, and C, the candidate is also required to select a compulsory day school in their catchment area under category D.
He advised students to exercise caution when selecting programme codes. This, he said is the main reason which accounts for non-placement of some candidates.
He added that the pupils should indicate their residential status that is day or boarding when selecting a school.
“For example, the code for the General Arts programme is 501 so if you choose 502, it is Science. These are the issues that pop up,” he said.
