Pig farmers in the Ashanti Region are increasing the prices of pig products for the second time in less than three months.
A kilogram of pork will see a 20 percent upward adjustment, from 18 cedis to 22 cedis, effective December 1, 2022.
In September, the cost of a kilogram of pork was increased by almost 20 percent, from 14 cedis to 18 cedis.
This cumulatively represents a 40 percent increase in pork products within the period.
Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Pig Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Philemon Kwabena Ampongsie, says the hike is a result of the high cost of production.
According to him, the rising cost of pig feed has adversely impacted the business of members.
Mr. Ampongsie says the recent increases in prices are part of pragmatic steps to save the pig industry.
He pleaded with the public and pork lovers to support the farmers by bearing with the rising cost of the products.
