The management of the University of Health and Allied Sciences has appealed for financial support from the government to expand its Basic School.
The University's basic school was established in January 2021 to serve as an educational facility for children of staff.
However, due to the quality of teaching delivered, there was a mad rush by residents for admission, leading to a rise in pupil population from 84 to 252 in 2022.
The UHAS Basic School Headmaster, Seth Kongah said the size of the structure won’t allow the school to accommodate more pupils.
He said though the school lacks some basic amenities, management continues to concentrate on building the capacity of teachers to position them to train the pupils to become "impactful people" in society.
He was unhappy about the state of access roads and appealed to the government to ensure the swift completion of the project which was awarded to First Sky Construction Limited.

The UHAS Vice-Chancellor, Prof Lydia Aziato, reiterated the need to expand the school and support it to deliver a technologically driven curriculum to the pupils.
She added that the expansion must enable the school operate streams to meet the admission demands of residents.
She said that the school needs a well stocked library, a music lab, a playground, sporting materials and facilities for extracurricular activities.
“Recently, the Fidelity Bank presented the school with about 20 laptops but that is woefully inadequate.
"If we want a better tomorrow for our children, I dare say that each classroom here should have devices for technology-driven teaching and learning”, she said.
Prof. Aziato appealed for the provision of an official vehicle to the school to help in the management of the school and a bus to transport pupils to and from school.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, acknowledged the development of the country’s educational system, and commended the teachers and stakeholders “for doing a good job”.
He promised to lobby the relevant institutions towards expanding the school and providing the requisite facilities to ensure proper training of the pupils.

The Volta Regional Director of Health, Dr. Senanu Djokoto, entreated the pupils to obey the instructions of their parents, learn God’s words, listen to their teachers, and love their neighbours.
“But don’t look down upon people who do not have as much as you, be kind to share when you have more”, he said.
14 boys and 17 girls graduated from kindergarten and were promoted to Basic 1. The graduation ceremony was laced with exciting activities.
Well-deserving students and pupils were honoured for their distinguished performance during the academic year.
