Former vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has revealed late Black Stars forward, Christian Atsu, was someone who never joked with his tithing while he was alive.
Atsu was a victim of the devastating earthquake in Turkey which claimed many lives with the Ghana international being under rubble for 12 days before his lifeless body was eventually recovered.
Speaking at the final funeral rites of the late player on Friday, March 17, Afriyie recounted his fondest memory of the 31-year-old while he was alive.
"There is always one thing that I will always not forget. Tony [Appiah] will tell me that 'George, Atsu and his tithe, he doesn't miss them.', he told Joy News.
"As for his calculations, he doesn't miss and he will make sure that the 10% is paid per what the Christian faith believes. This is so unique."
Atsu's last game as a footballer was during Hatayspor's 1-0 win over Kasimpasa, with the Ghanaian scoring the only goal of the game with a sublime free kick.
