The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, says headmasters in the various senior high schools in the country cannot prevent students from reporting to school over prospectus.
The Minister said the headmasters do not have such powers.
The Bosomtwe MP thus asked all parents and guardians who are yet to purchase items on the prospectus for their wards to send them to school.
Dr Adutwum, addressing a press conference on Tuesday, March 21, said education is a right enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and thus no student can be denied access due to the inability to purchase items on a school’s prospectus.
“I want to tell all parents to take their children to school. If you don’t have all the items on the prospectus, the headmasters can’t stop you from going to school. So parents send your children to school,” he said.
Dr Adutwum also interacted with parents who had issues with enrolling their wards onto the Computerised School Selection Placement System.
This year, a total of 372,780 students representing 69.24 percent out of the 538,399 candidates who qualified to be placed have been placed.
However, 165, 619 qualified candidates representing 30.76 percent who could not be matched with any of their choices had to go through the Self–Placement to select from available schools.
