This Saturday on Newsfile, Samson Lardy Anyenini will delve into the three new taxes the business community is expected to pay the state.
On April 1, Parliament passed the three tax bills which were tabled before it as part of the government’s measures to generate more revenue.
The bills namely the Income Tax Amendment Bill, The Excise Duty Amendment Bill, and the Growth and Sustainability Amendment Bill were passed on Friday evening.
Earlier, the government had stated that the revenue bills are needed to help the government complete processes for the about $3 billion IMF deal as well as improve the revenue situation of the country.
Despite the government's claims that it would generate the revenue needed, members of the business community had decried the negative impact the taxes will have on their businesses, however, this bill was still approved by the House.
This week your most authoritative news analysis programme will help you make sense of why the businesses community wails over three new taxes
Also, the show will once again touch on the Electoral Commission, this time focusing on a call by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) demanding the immediate resignation of Dr. Peter Appiahene and Hajia Salima Ahmed Tijani as members of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The two were recently appointed by President Akufo-Addo to the electoral management body.
However, on April 5, CODEO at a news conference said these appointments have the tendency to make the EC look partisan and affect its credibility in future elections.
Reading the address on behalf of CODEO, Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe suggested that the two newly appointed EC members resign voluntarily.
“We are painfully aware that voluntary and constitutionally grounded revocation of this unfortunate and democratically problematic EC appointment by the President is extremely unlikely.
To better understand the call by the group joins empanelled panelists from 9:00 am to noon to help you better appreciate why CODEO wants the resignation of 2 new EC members.
